Sound Healing Events
This Beltane, as the natural world erupts into vibrant life, we invite you to a sacred sanctuary nestled in the rolling hills of the Peak District, where the boundaries blur and the ancient call of the land sings true. This is more than an event; it is a primal remembrance, a pilgrimage back to your wildest selves.
Our guide for this journey is the Spirit of Hawthorn. The Hawthorn, or May tree, is the essence of Beltane; the gatekeeper between worlds, a fierce protector, and a powerful heart opening plant ally connecting us back to mother earth and to ourselves as we honour the turning of the wheel.
Together we will explore…

Hawthorn is generally well-tolerated but contraindicated for individuals with a known allergy to Crataegus or the rose family. It should be avoided during pregnancy (potential uterine stimulation) and breastfeeding. Use caution with, or avoid if you have, severe low blood pressure (hypotension) or bradycardia (slow heart rate).
Hawthorn is generally safe for short-term use, but it can interact with heart, blood pressure, and sedative medications, creating risks for those with low blood pressure, bradycardia, or who are pregnant/nursing. It may interact with medications like digoxin, beta-blockers, and calcium channel blockers.
Key Contraindications and Safety Warnings:
Heart Conditions: Consult a doctor if you have heart conditions or are taking heart medication (e.g., digoxin, beta-blockers). It may increase the effect of these drugs.
Bradycardia/Hypotension: Because hawthorn can lower blood pressure and decrease heart rate, it is not recommended for individuals with already low blood pressure (hypotension) or a slow heart rate (bradycardia).
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Do not use hawthorn during pregnancy, as it may stimulate uterine activity. Safety during breastfeeding has not been established, and it is best avoided.
Surgery: Stop using at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgery, as it may increase bleeding risks.
Drug Interactions: Consult a doctor if taking erectile dysfunction meds, blood thinners (antiplatelets/anticoagulants), or antihypertensives.
Digoxin: Increases the effect, which can lead to toxicity.
Anticoagulants/Antiplatelets: May enhance the effects of blood thinners, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Vasodilators/Nitrates: Combined use can cause an extreme drop in blood pressure.
CNS Depressants: May enhance sedative effects.
Children: Not recommended for children under 12.
Sound baths are generally considered a safe, low-risk, and relaxing experience for most people. However, due to the intense sound vibrations and deep meditative states they induce, they may not be suitable for certain individuals or require caution.
Please consult a medical professional before attending a Sound Bath if you have any of the following:
Epilepsy or Seizure Disorders: Sound-induced (musicogenic) epilepsy can be triggered by specific sound patterns or frequencies used in sound baths.
Pregnancy: It is generally recommended to avoid sound baths during the first trimester. Some also advise caution in the third trimester due to potential premature labour stimulation from deep vibrations.
Pacemakers or Metal Implants: While some sources say they are safe, others warn that strong vibrations from instruments (like gongs) placed near the body could potentially interfere with pacemakers or cause discomfort with metal implants, screws, or plates. Positioning yourself away from the instruments may help, but if you are unsure please consult your doctor before attending.
Severe Mental Health Conditions: Individuals with severe, unmanaged mental health issues—such as schizophrenia, psychosis, or severe PTSD—might find the intense sensory experience or deep emotional releases overwhelming.
Tinnitus or Sound Sensitivity: Individuals with acute tinnitus or hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound) may find high-pitched, loud, or prolonged sounds painful or aggravating. If you use a hearing aid please let us know prior to your arrival, then arrive 15 minutes early and we can provide a sound check to see how the instruments interact with your hearing device.
Recent Surgery or Acute Injuries: People with unhealed wounds, fresh surgical sites, or recent injuries should wait until they are fully recovered.
Severe Cardiovascular Conditions: Those with severe arrhythmias or high blood pressure should consult a doctor.
